About Us ...

Stockton Metro Ministry (SMM) is a non profit, interfaith organization with member organizations and individual members from different faith backgrounds and includes social action concerns, organizations and activities. SMM has been involved in issues ranging from education, family and child care concerns, has worked to find ways to meet the needs of the youth of our community, to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and has sought to address alcohol and substance abuse, low income housing and other concerns of equal significance. Annually SMM presents the Robert Edward Green Unity in Community Award to an individual or group which has endeavored to make Stockton a better place in which to live. The Robert Edward Green Memorial Fund, named for the long time Metro President and late pastor of the First Unitarian Universalist Church, maintains a endowment fund for the support of local organizations, innovative projects and causes.

Programs and agencies that SMM has developed or was instrumental in bringing to fruition are the Emergency Food Bank, The Family Resource and Referral Center, the Stockton Shelter for the Homeless and St. Mary's Interfaith Dining Hall. SMM has sponsored may community programs, including Interfaith Festivals at our Waterfront Offices.

Announcements of SMM Meetings and Activities

SMM's next community event will be the Festival of Unity - Water for Life to be held at the Waterfront Plaza at 501-509 West Weber (across from the Children's Museum) on Sunday, September 19, from 1 - 4 p.m. There will be displays and dialogue from many of the diverse faith traditions in Stockton as well as panel discussions, presentations, showing the importance of water in many of these traditions. There will also be music, dance and games and crafts projects for the children.

SMM is undertaking a new incorporation and most probably al a change of name in connection with the separation of the parent organization from Family Resource and Referral Center. To this end, the Board adopted some resolutions at its special meeting on Friday, July 23. See the resolutions and proposed amended articles of incorporation.
