From the Editor

Welcome to "On the Safe Side," a newsletter published by TOPPS, a group of people from the public and private sectors working to help small businesses learn more about hazardous waste issues, provide ways to deal with hazardous waste safely and economically, and comply with the law.

We'll write about news that you might otherwise miss (see State Offers Rebate For Recycled Oil) and programs you may take advantage of (Drop-off Days For Small Businesses). We'll keep you in touch with other businesses with an interview series. We particularly want to pass on to you information about your options for dealing with and disposing of the hazardous waste your business generates. We'll also provide an update on what's available to assist small businesses.

Finally, about us. This newsletter is a joint effort. Targeted Opportunities to Prevent Pollution in San Joaquin County, or TOPPS, is a consortium of business, industry and agencies working together for a better San Joaquin County. Alison Hudson, Management Analyst III for San Joaquin County, edits "On the Safe Side" and maintains a 24 hour Waste Hotline 1-800-449-4840. We welcome letters to the editor; do write with comments or questions.
