Who understand and can solve issues better at the worksite than the worker?
Shop Stewards exist to build power at the worksite by investigating and working on issues and getting workers together to make changes. Often issues at the worksite not only affect the individual, but are also an issue of the relationship between management and the workers. By uniting together to work on issues at the worksite as a group instead of as individuals with the union, workers are able to gain collective power that stays at the worksite all of the time, not just when the Field Representative is present.
